PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize not only the improvement of easiness of performing a searchableness or document classification by an index, but also the replacement of workability of the index in a file equipped with a pair of front and rear opening and closing covers and a spine provided between the base ends of these opening and closing covers. SOLUTION: The file is formed that a spine 2 is equipped with a cover member 3 having a transparency capable of seeing the inner part and a backing strip 4 being disposed at the inner surface side of the cover member 3 and rendering an index retainable between it and the inner surface of the cover member 3, and one or a plurality of divisional bodies 7 can be selectively formed in order to vertically divide the index insertion space S to the backing member 4.
