PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the area of a catalyst in a small volume and to enable the catalyst to be used particularly in a gaseous phase, a liquid phase or the both gaseous and liquid phases. SOLUTION: A metal oxide structure with a latticed structure comprising platelike bodies where two or more combinations of the platelike bodies whose central faces are parallel to each other exist, is prepared and used as an objective catalyst. In this case, the platelike bodies preferably exist at the density of 0.01-10,000 bodies per 10μm×10μm area on a substrate.
