PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cationic hydrophilic resin exerting a stable hydrophilicity, which has a sufficient hydrophilicity and does not become insoluble and precipitate, even when mixed in an aqueous medium containing anionic species. SOLUTION: When preparing a hydrophilic resin, a compound wherein at least a hydroxy group and/or amino group are linked to a bivalent organic group having a cationizable amino group and a resin obtained from a diisocyanate are allowed to react with a halide wherein halogens are linked to a hydrophilic alcohol or ether to cationize the above-mentioned cationizable amino group.
