PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a colorless glass composition with high ultraviolet screening (absorbing) ability and high visible light transmittance approximate to that of ordinary clear glass. SOLUTION: This ultraviolet absorbing glass is a soda-lime silica-based glass, having the following characteristics: iron content as impurities: <0.10 wt.% in terms of Fe2O3; for the respective contents of ultraviolet-absorbing component and color tone-regulating component, CeO2: 0.5-1.6 wt.%, TiO2: 0-0.8 wt.%, V2O5: 0-0.09 wt.%, sulfur fraction: 0.10-0.35 wt.% in terms of SO3, and CoO: 0-0.002 wt.%; and, for 5 mm plate thickness, ultraviolet transmittance: <=20%, visible light transmittance: >=85%, and main wavelengths: 490-560 nm.
