PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device for an endoscope in which heat generation of the power switch by the light source lamp can be effectively prevented even if the device is miniaturized. SOLUTION: A light source lamp 3 attached to a lamp holder 15 is set in a lamp house 16 near the center of the box-type main body 4 of this light source device. Illuminating light is provided to a light guide connector 12 detachably connected to a light guide connector connecting part 12 which is attached opposite to the front plate 4a of the light source lamp 3. A power switch 13 is attached to the front plate 4a adjacent to the light guide connector connecting part 12. The power switch 13 is covered by a switch cover 31 so that the power switch 13 will not be heated higher than an allowable temperature by the radiant heat of the light source lamp 3, and in addition, a switch shielding part 32 is formed by extending a shielding plate 10 between the light source lamp 3 and the front plate 4a to shield the power switch 13 from the radiant heat of the light source lamp 3.
