PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form an overspread area on a border between adjacent image areas through the processing of image data, in order to prevent voids due to the deviation in print plates. SOLUTION: In the overspread processing method, when the operator selects an image area CR2 being a processing object, the processing object CR2 is wide-processed by a prescribed width (d), and the colors of overspread areas CR4, CR5 formed thereby are decided, based on a color of the processing object CR2 and original colors of the overspread areas CR4, CR5. For example, the maximum value or the mean value of each color component of the colors of the processing object area and each color component of the original colors of the overspread areas are decided as the respective color components of the colors of the overspread areas.
