PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To clamp output signals of an image pickup element for every pixel. SOLUTION: An optical black OP part of an image pickup element is divided into an analog area 204 and a digital OB area 205. The analog area 204 of the image pickup element, on which an output analog signal 121 stays is clamped at a prescribed level 201 by an analog OB clamp signal 131, a resulting analog signal 122 clamped as above is A/D-converted to obtain a digital signal 123, and a digital OB area 205 on which the digital signal 123 stays is clamped by a digital OB clamp signal 132. For this digital clamping, clamp data 202 for even numbered pixels and clamp data 203 for odd numbered pixels are separately generated, and the even numbered pixels and the odd numbered pixels are clamped by the separate data respectively so as to cancel dispersion for every pixel.
