PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a curing agent which can quickly cure an epoxy resin even at ordinary temperature or low temperature and can exhibit uninhibited curing performances even in the presence of water by using a specified compound as the effective component. SOLUTION: A compound of the formula and a salt thereof are used. In the formulae, X is -(CH2)n-, -(CH2)1-Y-(CH2)m (wherein Y is -N(R1)-, -O-, or -S- (wherein R1 is a 1-8C alkyl); n is 2, 3, or 5-11: and l and m are 1-3). Among them, 1-aminohomopiperidine, 1-amino-N'-methylpiperazine, or N- aminomorpholine is particularly desirable. It is suitable that the rate to the epoxy resin is usually about 0.5-2 in terms of the equivalent ratio (epoxy/amine) of the epoxy groups of the epoxy resin to the amine groups of the compound. Although it can be used as such or in the form of a powder or a liquid, it may be used in the form of an aqueous solution or a solution or dispersion in an organic solvent.
