PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an organic light-emitting element in service life, tone of emission color, and brightness by decreasing the intensity of ultraviolet radiation which impinges on the element from the outside of the element. SOLUTION: An organic light-emitting element has a transparent electrode 3, an organic electroluminescent layer 5, and an electrode 6 arranged in that order on the surface of a transparent substrate 1 and either has an ultraviolet radiation absorbing film 2 containing an ultraviolet radiation absorbing compound between the transparent electrode 3 and the substrate 1 or on the back of the substrate or contains the ultraviolet radiation absorbing compound in the transparent substrate 1, and the ultraviolet radiation absorbing compound having an absorption peak value on a wavelength band of not longer than 400 nm. The ultraviolet radiation absorbing compound is an inorganic phosphor which absorbs and converts ultraviolet radiation into visible light, and the ultraviolet radiation absorbing film 2 is preferably formed through sol-gel method.
