PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide good visibility when displaying the existance position or range of an object. SOLUTION: A photoelectric sensor detects a distance to an object. In a normal mode, a feature parameter is displayed on a feature parameter display 29 with a bar graph having a length corresponding to its value and a threshold value is displayed by lighting one display segment of a threshold value display 30 provided beside the feature parameter display 29. In a zone mode, the feature parameter is displayed on the feature parameter display 29 by lighting a display segment located corresponding to its value and two threshold values (an upper limit value and a lower limit value in a detection range) are displayed by lighting two display segments of the threshold value display 30.
