PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drive an independent electrode at a low voltage and low frequency by applying a reset pulse of the polarity reverse to a display panel in the interval of application of the display pulse in a common electrode. SOLUTION: A reset pulse has the polarity reverse to a display pulse and a magnitude of the same voltage as the first step pulse (6). This voltage is, for example, 160 V, which is the voltage for performing a discharge when a wall charge is left. Thus, the residual wall charge is surely discharged. Further, the same voltage is set, whereby the driving circuit can be simplified. The reset pulse requires a length capable of performing a sure discharge when the wall charge is left after the discharge is ended. To perform the sure discharge, about 5μsec is necessary for this device. As to the time of discharge, the reset pulse is preferably inserted after the lapse of about 15μsec from the fall of the display pulse to 0 V (GND).
