PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heating method which can be made maximum use for all applications of a burner and is economical. SOLUTION: In a method for a heating furnace having at least one burner that is operatable by an oxidant with a changeable oxygen quantity, substantially pure oxygen is supplied to the burner in order to supply a large quantity of energy for heating in a first stage P1, an oxidant of an oxygen quantity changeable between about 100% and 21% is supplied to the burner according to a desired heating performance and consideration regarding an operation cost of the oxidant in a second stage P2, and an oxidant of an oxygen quantity corresponding to a pilot stage requiring only the minimum and a small quantity of energy for heating is supplied to the burner in a third stage P3.
