PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain automation of occurring program updating, reduction of a risk after program updating, and reduction of the processing work at the time of changing without affecting the system operation under working as little as possible in a distributed processing server/client system. SOLUTION: A distributed server (main) is provided with job managing tables 3 and 3' for storing information for totally managing the programs of servers and clients as objects, a system state table 4 for storing information for managing the working states of respective servers, a program storage data base 5 for storing former and new programs and an updating managing part 2 for transferring the novel program to the other server and client and the client is provided with an updating part (updating program) 8 for allocating a virtual name to the program under working, switching the existent program under working and the novel program and making them compatible.
