PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To synthesize a new polymerizable monomer by reacting a fluoro alcohol compound with a (meth)acrylic acid (halide) and to obtain a polymer soluble in also a non-chlorinous solvent and excellent in lubricating properties, water repellency, and oil repellency by polymerizing the above monomer. SOLUTION: A fluoro alcohol compound represented by formula II (wherein R2 is a lower alkyl; and Rf is a 3-20C polyfluoroalkyl) is reacted with a (meth) acrylic acid represented by formula III (wherein R1 is H or methyl) or a (meth) acrylic acid halide represented by formula IV (wherein X is a halogen) to obtain a new fluoro compound represented by formula I. A compound represented by formula I is homopolymerized or copolymerized with other polymerizable monomers by a known method to obtain a fluoro polymer containing 5-100 wt.% polymer units derived from the compound of formula I and a weight- average molecular weight of 10,000-2,000,000.
