PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the structure of a liquid crystal display panel. SOLUTION: A plurality of scanning electrodes are installed on a back side glass substrate 3 of a liquid crystal display panel 1 so as to be extended in the line direction, and a counter electrode is installed on a surface side glass substrate 2. A light guide body 11 is provided with a plate-like part formed by closely sticking light guide plates 12 together in the thickness direction. One prescribed surface of the light guide plate 12 is made to be a line-shaped light emitting surface 15, and the other prescribed surface is made to be a light incident surface 16. A light source 21 is provided with a line-shaped light emitting diode array 23 driven by a signal driver. The relation between the arrangement pitch of the light emitting diode and the arrangement pitch of light guide plate 12 is made to be 1:1. As a plurality of the line-shaped light emitting surfaces 15 of the light guide plates 12 have a function as a signal line, individual picture elements are formed by individual cross points of a plurality of the scanning electrodes extending in the row direction and a plurality of the line-shaped light emitting surfaces 15 of the light guide plates 12 extending in the column direction.
