PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical information recording device which is capable of precisely determining the optimum value of an edge position of recording pulse by minimizing the influence of mark distortion caused when a test signal is overwritten on a recording mark already recorded on an optical disk. SOLUTION: The test signal for optimizing the edge position of the recording pulse is sent out from an edge test signal forming circuit 4, record starting points are shifted at random for every sector with a record starting point shift circuit 3 in order to suppress the edge interval from being biased by mark distortion due to overwriting, thereby performing test recording, by which the test signal is recorded in plural sectors, and the average value of the edge interval of the recording mark reproduced from these sectors is computed. By obtaining the difference between the computed average value and the original edge interval of test signal, the compensation amt. for the edge position is determined.
