PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing apparatus with a function of preventing stains caused by ink wiped through wiping operation while performing the wiping of a printing head and keeping a high quality of the printing. SOLUTION: A portable printer for printing with a liquid ink includes a wiper 91 for wiping the nozzle of a printing head, a wiper holder 92 for holding it, a spring to urge from wiping position to the direction of a standby position, and a stopper 94 for bringing the wiper holder 92 in contact therewith and stopped at a predetermined position when the wiper 91 is to be moved to its housing position by the spring, and also includes a wiping mechanism 90 for preventing printing paper PP or the like from being stained by lessening its contact area in order for ink wiped off by the wiping operation not to scatter out of this contact surface.
