摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of such a condition that the air-fuel ration becomes rich so as to discharge particulate components when the operating condition of an engine abruptly varies. SOLUTION: An engine control device comprises a fuel injection means composed of a fuel injection valve 12 for directly injecting fuel into a combustion chamber in an engine body 3, a fuel injection volume control device 75 for controlling the fuel injection volume in accordance with an operating condition of the engine, an exhaust recirculation flow control means 76 for controlling the exhaust recirculation volume of exhaust gas recirculated into an intake air passage 52 in accordance with an operating condition of the engine, a torque decreasing instruction output means for delivering an instruction for reducing the fuel injection volume under control of the fuel injection volume control means so as to decrease the engine torque in accordance with a running condition of a vehicle in such an operating condition that exhaust gas is reciculated into the intake air passage, and an exhaust recirculation rate lowering means composed of an intake throttle valve control means 77 and the like for lowering the recirculation rate of exhaust gas.
