PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably transmit an image, even when a cycle timing for isochronous communication obtained at the outside of the image pickup device, such as personal computer, is temporarily lost. SOLUTION: In this image pickup device, an image obtained by an image pickup element 1 is converted into digital data by a preprocessing section 2 and an A/D converter section 3, the digital data are processed by a signal processing section 4, and the processed data are transmitted to the outside of the image pickup device through a transmission reception section 6. When the timing information for communication received by a transmission reception section 6c and obtained externally is used and the timing information is missing or an error occurs, a communication fault control section 11 stops the transmission to stop transmission of an image having disturbance or a noise. Furthermore, the timing of data transmission is generated from a transfer rate obtained from the outside of the image pickup device through a channel of isochronous transmission, a control signal not affected by the missing of communication timing of effect of error is generated, and the image is transmitted only during a transmission enable period so as to transmit the image stably.
