PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering column to be adjusted continuously variably with respect to a car body and have a simply structured restraint apparatus. SOLUTION: An automotive steering column 1 adjustably provided in the car body of an automobile has a restraint apparatus 3 for fixing the steering column 1 to a car body 10 to be releasably, the restraint device 3 includes a first restraint element 8 in the steering column side and a second restraint element 7 in a car body side, and both restraint elements 7 and 8 are adjusted to a releasing position for the adjustment of the steering column 1 and a restraint position for the fixing of the steering column. Thus, at least one of the two restraint elements 7 and 8 is formed as a deformation element 8 to be elastically deformed and, in the restraint position, the deformation element 8 is deformed while fixing the steering column 1 by friction or engagement to the car body 10 by the other restraint element 7. |
