PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain bitumen excellent in adhesion to an aggregate by adding, to bitumen, a specified amt. of a product which is obtd. by neutralizing a condensate formed from a polyalkylenepolyamine and an 8-22C satd. or unsatd. fatty acid with an org. sulfonic acid or a sulfuric ester compd. SOLUTION: A condensate, such as an alkyl/alkenylimidazoline compd. obtd. by reacting 1 mol of a polyalkylenepolyamine of the formula (wherein m is 2 or 3; and n is 1-8) with 1-4 mol of an 8-22C satd. or unsatd. fatty acid (e.g. capric or oleic acid), is partly or completely neutralized with an org. sulfonic acid (e.g. p-toluenesulfonic acid) or a sulfuric ester compd. This neutralization product is added to thermally melted bitumen to give bitumen contg. 0.05-5.0 wt.% neutralization propoduct. Examples of the polyalkylenepolyamine are diethylenetriamine, tetraethylenepentamine, tripropylenetetramine, and pentapropylenehexamine.
