MEDICAL NITROGEN MONOXIDE INHALATION DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medical nitrogen monoxide inhalation device incorporated to a respirator for generating only a necessary quantity of nitrogen monoxide from air or dried air at a necessary time, thus avoiding the use of a nitrogen monoxide cylinder which probably causes serious accidents on a site of medical care. SOLUTION: A capacitor 2 is charged with a high-voltage power supply 1 and a switch 3 is closed to apply a high voltage between opposite bar electrodes 4 and repeat pulse arc discharge. Air or dried air 5 is allowed to flow in the discharge to generate nitrogen monoxide. A resistor 6 is disposed for reducing the voltage of the electrodes 4 during the charging of the capacitor 2. Generated nitrogen dioxide is removed by a gas passing through heated molybdenum 7. This structure serves as a medical nitrogen monoxide inhalation device when it is incorporated to a respirator 8. 9 in the figure represents a lung for tests.
