PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize the changeover of injection between compression stroke and suction stroke so as to reduce variation in engine output power. SOLUTION: A control device for a cylinder injection type internal combustion engine calculates an averaged value Pave of the output P#n of a cylinder pressure sensor for each cylinder #n (steps S10, S12), and compares the averaged value' Pave with a predetermined value A (S14). If the averaged value Pave exceeds the predetermined value A, a differenceΔP#n between the pressure value P#n of each cylinder and the averaged value A is obtained. The fuel injection timing is changed over in the order of cylinders having decreasing differencesΔP#.
