PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film magnetic head, with which the accurate control of the width of a magnetic pole is available and sufficient overwrite characteristic is obtd. even when the width of the magnetic pole is made small and a manufacturing method therefor. SOLUTION: The thin film magnetic head is constituted to make the position of a juncture between an intermediate part 17b and a tip end part 17c controlling the track width in an upper magnetic pole 17 coincide with a throat height zero position (THO position), which is a reference of the throat height TH, and to provide a difference in level in the width direction approximately perpendicularly changing here. The width of the intermediate part 17b in this juncture is made sufficiently larger than the width of the tip end part 17c in the juncture. Expansion of the pattern width of a photoresist for forming the tip end part 17c is prevented and making the writing track width minute is possible. The presence of the intermediate part 17b with a large width prevents the magnetic flux generated in a yoke part 17a from being saturated before the magnetic flux reaches the tip end part 17c, thus assuring sufficient overwrite characteristic. |
