PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce vibration and noise as well as to enhance strength in a variable displacement vane pump. SOLUTION: This variable displacement vane pump is constituted in that a cam ring 70 is turnably supported; the turning fulcrum P of the cam ring 70 is placed at a suction port 41 side rather than the shaft core Op of a rotor 50; the pre-compression amount of a pump chamber is increased as the cam ring 70 rotates in the direction for increasing pump displacement volume. Thus, a state for smoothly changing the pressure of the pump chamber is retained even if the cam ring 70 is rotated, to reduce the vibration and noise of the vane pump.
