A replacing portion (210) replaces a sampled value from an A/D converter (10) with one of expected values (B0, B1, B2, B3, B4) in accordance with a predetermined rule. A branch metric table (230) stores a branch metric which has been predetermined on the basis of the sampled value replaced by the replacing portion (210) and the expected values and correlated with the sampled value. A branch metric determining portion (220) derives the branch metric corresponding to the sampled value to be replaced in the replacing portion 210 from the branch metric table (230).
