The oxygen sensor has a measurement electrode (6,66), an air-oxygen reference electrode (9), a protective electrode (7) and an auxiliary electrode (8). The measurement electrode is made from a gas-permeable, polymeric, perfluorinated diffusion membrane (66) that is coated, at least partially, on one side with a mixture of a noble metal and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) (6), the diffusion membrane being exposed to the ambient atmosphere.
