摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a liquid crystal element good in reflectance characteristics. SOLUTION: By this method, first, a polymerizable compd., a low mol.wt. liquid crystal and a polymn. initiator for polymerizable groups are mixed to prepare a polymerizable comps. liquid, which is injected in a cell 12. By irradiating the cell 12 with laser interference light 11, the polymerizable compd. is initiated to cure in the region having large amplitude of the laser interference light 11 to form a polymer layer 9 having a low refractive index. In the region having small amplitude of the laser interference light 11, polymer phase separation is caused to form a polymer dispersion liquid crystal layer 10 having a high refractive index. The temp. of the polymerizable compsn. during irradiation with laser interference light 11 is controlled to the just above the liquid crystal phase-isotropic phase transition temp. of the polymerizable compsn.
