摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the scattering characteristics without spoiling the display characteristics. SOLUTION: A polymer liquid crystal composite body 56 having liquid crystal drops 55 dispersed and held in a polymer 54 is disposed between a pair of upper and lower substrates 50 and 51 each having electrode 52 and 53 formed. The liquid crystal drops 55 have a flat form as compressed in the perpendicular direction to the substrate. In the production method, a mixture compsn. containing a liquid crystal material and a polymerizable material having the shrinking rate of >=10% and <=20% during polymn. is injected between the substrates 50 and 51. The polymerizable material of the mixture compsn. injected is polymerized to cause phase separation of the polymer from the liquid crystal to form the polymer liquid crystal composite material 56. In the polymn. process, shrinkage of the polymerizable material causes compression of the liquid crystal drops 55 in the perpendicular direction to the substrate and the drops are made to have a flat form.
