PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the silver halide photosensitive material having an infrared light sensitive silver halide emulsion layer high in sensitivity and low in fog by incorporating at least one kind of specified compound. SOLUTION: The silver halide photosensitive material contains in a silver halide emulsion at least one kind of compound represented by formula I or II in which each of Z1, Z2, and Z11 is a non-metallic atomic group necessary to complete 5- or 6-membered single or condensed N-containing ring; each of L1-L9 and L11-L15 is a methine group; each of R1 and R2 and R11 and R12 is an aliphatic group; each of R13 and R14 is an H atom or a substituent or a nonmetallic atomic group necessary to combine with each other to form a condensed ring; each of X1 and X11 is an ion necessary to cancel a charge in the molecule; each of K1 and K11 is the number of an ion necessary to cancel a charge in the molecule; and m1 is 0 or 1.
