PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information reproducing apparatus by which a piece of music recorded as recording information in a high-density optical disk having different hierarchical structures can be retrieved or the like quickly and surely even when the high-density optical disk is loaded. SOLUTION: In an information reproducing apparatus, a piece of music is reproduced from a DVD which comprises a hierarchical structure composed of a plurality of hierarchies as titles or chapters respectively containing pieces of music and constituted respectively so as to contain titles or chapters different from each other in every hierarchy and in which a plurality of pieces of music are recorded. In the information reproducing apparatus, when one piece of music to be reproduced is extracted, either the titles or the chapters are designated. On the basis of the number of the titles or the chapeters contained in every hierarchy, whether the designation indicates either the titles or the chapeters is judged (Steps S2, S3, S4, S5). The piece of music which is contained in the judged titles or chapeters is extracted so as to be reproduced (Step S6).
