PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure a satisfactorily bright white display and to improve the back display and contrast. SOLUTION: A transmitting reflection plate 3, which transmits light being incident within a fixed angle range and reflect light being incident at an angle out of the fixed angle range, is arranged on the lower face side of a scattering transmission type liq. crystal cell 2, a light absorption plate 4 is arranged on the lower face side of this transmitting reflection plate 3, and a linear prism 13 is arrayed and formed on the surface of the transmitting reflection plate 3, and a mirror reflection layer 14 is formed on one side of inclined faces of the linear prisms 13 and the other side of the inclined faces is exposed. Accordingly, as light made incident on the liq. cell 2 in a scattering state of the liq. crystal cell 2 is scattered and forward scattered light excepting a part of the scattered light absorbed in the light absorption plate 4 after passing through the transmitting reflection plate 3 is emitted toward the observer side after being reflected by the mirror reflection layer 14, a bright white display is obtained. And, in the transmitting state of the liq. crystal cell 2, a dark black display is obtained and the contrast is also improved. |
