PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance vertical resolution of an image pickup device. SOLUTION: Two systems of data G and R/B outputted from a solid-state image pickup element unit at a double speed receive time base expansion respectively by time base expansion circuits 11, 12 by a multiple of two and vertical interpolation circuits 12, 15 apply vertical interpolation to the expanded data. Then the R/B data are given to a synchronization circuit 18, where the R/B data receive synchronization processing and the resulting data together with the data G are fed to a matrix circuit 16. In the case of conducting zooming, the data G and R/B are respectively written in field memories 20, 21. A zoom control circuit 22 controls the field memories and also the vertical interpolation circuits.
