PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a heat developable photosensitive material having a good coating surface and excellent photographic performance. SOLUTION: The heat developable photosensitive material has an image forming layer containing a nonphotosensitive organic silver salt and a photosensitive silver halide formed independently of the organic silver salt on the substrate and the main binder of the image forming layer is made of latex of a polymer having <=40 deg.C glass transition temperature. In the course of the production of the photosensitive material, a coating solution for the image forming layer in which >=60 wt.% of the solvent is water is, prior to coating, vacuum-degassed and kept under >=1.5 kg/cm2 pressure and ultrasonic vibration to defoam the coating solution while continuously transporting the solution in such a way that a vapor-liquid interface is not formed.
