PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image information reproducing device which does not need waiting time for new lookahead, even when a reproduction direction is switched and outputs an image with fast response. SOLUTION: When a leading head in the moving direction of a recording medium in a normal rotation reproduction state is defined as the 1st head between 1st and 2nd heads 3a and 3b, this image information reproducing device is provided with a signal processing part, which performs expansion processing of a detected signal of the 1st head and outputs it as a reproduced signal in a normal rotation reproduction state and performs expansion processing of a detected signal of the 2nd head and outputs it as a reproduced signal in a reverse rotation reproduction state and switches a pickup signal to be inputted to an expanding part 4 from the recording medium with a signal switching circuit 6 is accordance with a reproduction direction. Due to this configuration, waiting time for new lookahead is shorter than in conventional practice, and an image can be outputted with fast response, even when a reproduction direction is switched.
