PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mounting-on-head type display device which is wide in visual field and is excellent in visibility. SOLUTION: A display unit 4 which is held on a mount 3 mountable at the head of an observer 2 has a means 6a for emitting display light of an image for the left eye, a means 6b for emitting display light of an image for the right eye and an optical system 8 for introducing the display light to the observer's eyes by changing the optical paths of both display light rays. The optical paths of the respective display light rays are changed by this optical system 8 in such a manner that the visual field where the image for the left eye is displayed and the visual field where the image for the right eye is displayed partially overlap on each other. The display device has means 7a, 7b which vary the luminance of the portion corresponding to the overlap region of the visual fields and the luminance of the portion corresponding to the non-overlap region from each other respectively in the image for the left eye and the image for the right eye.
