PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To mount a linear light source, a nonmagnification linear sensor, and an electric circuit on one circuit board in a narrow space and to prevent ghost light from being generated. SOLUTION: A luminous flux stop member 21 cuts off light which is reflected only once by a roof prism 9 to prevent ghost light from being emitted. Further, the linear light source 1 and nonmagnification linear sensor 2 are mounted on the common circuit board 23, the relative position between the both are accurately determined, and the number of circuit boards 23 is decreased. Further, the length of a vertical optical path perpendicular to a recording medium 5 is shortened by using a roof prism lens array 6 which reflects the light from the recording medium 5 almost at right angles and images it on the nonmagnification linear sensor 2 and the width of the circuit board 23 perpendicular to the recording medium 5 is also shortened by mounting the electronic circuit 11 on the opposite surface of the circuit board 23 from the nonmagnification linear sensor 2.
