PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily change display characters on the liquid crystal panel of an operating part and to cope, for instance, with a region where a used language is different. SOLUTION: An operating part 9 provided for the facsimile machine has a liquid crystal panel 91, an MPU 96, an external connection bus port 97, etc. The MPU 96 is provided with a flash ROM and stores font data for performing display on the panel 91 in the flash ROM. A user can rewrite the font data stored in the flash memory of the MPU 96 by connecting a jig for font rewriting which stores font data for rewriting to the port 97 and performing a prescribed operation. In this configuration, the display can be performed by using the font of a language used by the user, and also, a device which has high convenience to the user and is inexpensive can be offered because a hardware configuration does not have to be changed according to the difference of a used language.
