PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an assembly for annihilating radioactive substances with long half-life periods that can efficiently annihilate in a reactor radioactive substances (FP nuclides with long half-life periods such as technetium-99 or iodine-129) generated in the reactor, is easy to fabricate and inspect and can reduce costs. SOLUTION: An assembly for annihilating radioactive substances with a long half-life periods is made by surrounding with a moderator material 24 the circumference of a linear body 22 of the radioactive substances with long half-life periods consisting of metal, alloy or compounds including FP nuclides with long half-life periods, stowing the linear body 22 surrounded with the moderator 24 in clad pipes 26 to make pins 20 including FPs and housing only the pins including FPs in a wrapper tube 28. A plurality of the linear body 22, may be placed scatteringly and it is allowable to have a structure where the scattered bodies are surrounded with the moderator material. The radioactive substance with long half-life period may be a thin-wall cylindrical body. Such an assembly for annihilating the radioactive substances with long half-life periods is most suitable to load in a blanket area of a fast reactor.
