A nucleic acid sequence is a 1489 bp (I) or a 1181 bp sequence (II), fully defined in the specification, or their antisense sequence or derivative. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) plasmids (III) pDF3 and pDF4 (CNCM I-1999 and I-2000, respectively); (2) host cells (IV) containing these plasmids; (3) a method (V) for detecting Escherichia coli O157:H7 or enterohemorrhagic E. coli (EHEC); and (4) kits for (V).
