摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical information recording medium which exhibits high reflectivity, is capable of dealing sufficiently with high-speed recording and reproducing and has high preservation stability. SOLUTION: This optical information recording medium is an optical information recording medium of a heat mode type having a dyestuff recording layer capable of recording information on a transparent substrate by irradiation with a laser beam and a metallic reflection layer thereon. The carbon atom coexistence region in the metallic reflection layer exists within 5 nm from the surface of the dyestuff recording layer in the thickness direction of the metallic reflection layer. This process for producing the medium described above includes a stage for forming the dyestuff recording layer by applying a dyestuff-containing coating liquid on the transparent substrate and a stage for forming the metallic reflection layer by utilizing a sputtering method on the dyestuff recording layer in an atmosphere of <=9&times;103 Pa in the ultimate vacuum degree within a sputtering chamber while allowing inert gas to flow into the chamber.
