PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read, reproduce recorded data well by pressing a turntable by a moving means against a biasing force of a biasing means when a cartridge recording medium is set to the turntable and bringing the cartridge recording medium to be proximate to a pickup means. SOLUTION: When a CD 2 is placed onto a CD load face of a turntable 13, a clamper 12 moves down to clamp the CD 2 and the turntable 13 rotates to read out data by an optical head 15. When an MD cartridge 3 reaches a transfer complete position, the turntable 13 places an MD 3b on an MD load face and moves up thereby freeing contact of the MD 3b with an inner face of the MD cartridge 3. The turntable 13 moves up further. A projection 13g presses up the MD cartridge 3 and stops at a position where the cartridge butts with a holder 11. When the turntable 13 rotates and the optical head 15 moves up and reaches a reference position in terms of a distance to the MD 3b, the optical head reads out data.
