PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent cards from being swindled even when a shutter plate is partly scraped off by providing a means which detects a fact that the shutter plate is scraped off. SOLUTION: A card reader has a shutter plate 3 at its card insertion slit 2 to open and close the slit 2 and also has detection means 4 which forms a conductive pattern 8 at a part positioned at the slit 2 to detect the cutting of the pattern 8. The pattern 8 is formed along the entire circumference of a part set at the position of the slit 2 and on an end face of the plate 3 or at a position adjacent to the end face. Then a detection circuit is added to the card reader to detect the cutting of the pattern 8. Thus, it's possible to detect that the plate 3 is scraped off since the pattern 8 is cut and the means 4 operates when even a part of the said end face is cut around a part positioned at the slit 2 of the plate 3. |
