PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reader which can reduce two-color separation defects by setting the shift of the signal output from a line sensor less than 1/2-line time. SOLUTION: The image reader is equipped with a main light source which emits irradiation light irradiating a document surface, an image forming lens 6 for converging reflected light from the document surface, and a three-line one-chip color sensor 7 converting the reflected light into an electric signal and outputting it, and the three-line one-chip color sensor 7 is fitted in the reader obliquely to the array direction of respective lines in the three-line one- chip color sensor 7 corresponding to the position of the depth of focus with which the best resolving power of the image forming lens is obtained by the light wavelengths of red(R), green(G), and blue(B) by angle adjusting means 11 to 16, and 18.
