PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remarkably increase the quantity of a buried medium for getting base material wet, by forming a recess pattern equipped with a wide area having higher housing capacity to the medium than the surface of the carrier pattern to contact with base material, on a pattern carrier. SOLUTION: The roller body of a pattern carrier, which forms a pattern by applying a gas-form medium on base material 1, is of such structure that the lower region enters an airtight pressure chamber 2. An evaporator 3 equipped with a nozzle 4 is provided within the pressure chamber 2 to evaporate a gas-form medium. The evaporator 3 is arranged such that the medium evaporates vertically to the surface of the roller body and that it is housed in the recess constituted on the roller body. Then, when the roller body rotates in direction A and the region filled with steam of the recess pattern reaches the outside of the pressure chamber 2, and is cooled, contacting with the band- shaped base material 1 advancing in direction B, the steam in the pattern condenses on the surface 1a of the base material, and forms a cover film in the shape of a recess pattern.
