PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital signal recorder capable of recording a high quality signal on a magnetic tape for a long time by making the best use of conventional production facilities and parts of the magnetic tape. SOLUTION: This digital signal magnetic recorder records DV format data on a 8 mm width magnetic tape. For example, the recorder records two track data of DV format in an untouched data pattern in a single track of the 8 mm width tape. Moreover, an extended data is recorded in this single track together with the two track data in DV format.
