PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the optimum read/write of data by updating the configuration of a buffer memory corresponding to the kind of access method for each computer. SOLUTION: When an access command is sent from a computer 10 to a storage device 20, a controller 23 analyzes this access command. When it is judged as a result of analysis it is better to change a current structure, the controller 23 changes the internal structure of a buffer memory 21 corresponding to the access command. Afterwards, ordinary operation is started and data are exchanged between the computer 10 and the storage device 20. When contents can not be analyzed as a result of analysis of the access command or even when it is not necessary to change contents in the buffer memory 21, ordinary operation is started as well. Thus, since the contents in the buffer memory 21 are changed and optimized corresponding to the contents of the computer 10, data can be smoothly exchanged between the computer 10 and the storage device 20.
