PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set up optimum remote instruction monitoring time by constituting a remote transfer device with a timer for setting up a counting value for remote instruction monitoring time, a means for informing a host computer of an I/O error when processing corresponding to an instruction has not be completed within the counting value set up by the timer, and other means. SOLUTION: A resource management part(RM) 8 in a master center side file control device 5 having received processing completion information from a slave center side file control device 105 judges the normality/abnormality of data transfer by the processing completion information and informs the master center side host computer 1 of the judged result. At the timing of notification to the host computer 1, the RM 8 ends the counting of continued remote instruction monitoring time. When the remote transfer processing time from the master center to the slave center from the start of counting the monitoring time exceeds the monitoring time of a set instruction, the host computer 1 is informed of an I/O error.
