PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an unmanned carrier position detecting system capable of unnecessitating the laying construction of a guide, facilitating the change of course layout and reducing the laying construction cost. SOLUTION: Laser light from a scanning type laser radar 10 loaded on an unmanned carrier 20 is rotationally scanned in a horizontal plane, the distances to reflection plates 30-60 and directions are found from the time until the feedback of reflected light from the reflection plates 30, 40, 50 and 60 and the radiating direction of laser light, the positions of the reflection plates 30-60 at this time are calculated from the directions and distances of the reflection plates 30-60 detected this time, concerning all the reflection plates 30-60 detected this time, two reflection plates closest to an unmanned carrier 20 are selected out of the reflection plates 30-60 closest within the distances shorter than a preset value, and the position of the unmanned carrier 20 is calculated from the directions and distances of the selected reflection plates and the position data of these reflection plates.
