The device has a baseplate (3) and a tilt ably mounted operating part (1). The area covered by the operating part is greater than the area of the baseplate. The operating part has contact elements (7) which are actuated when the operating part is inclined and contact is made with a base surface on which the base plate is placed. A flexible member (9), e.g. made of expanded plastic foam, is provided between the baseplate and the operating part. A movement sensor in the form of an accelerometer may be included.
